user-pic  Ninja Roboform Skills (Deal a Death Blow to Time Suckage)
By: Mark Joyner

You know you're a geek when you are singing "I've got a crush on Roboform" when everyone else is singing about their crush on Barak Obama.

If you don't have a cyber-crush on Roboform yet, you soon will.  Allow me to introduce you to one of its features.

1.  Download Roboform (do it - it will change your life - and it's free)

2.  Go to a site you search often.  (I am using trademe.co.nz - New Zealand's answer to ebay - as an example)

3.  Enter this as your search term:  rfarg

4.  Hold down the alt key and click on the submit button (or whatever it's called on the site you want to search)

5.  You'll be prompted to name and save

6.  Now whenever I want to search Trademe - or any other site I code this way - all I have to do is type the search term and select the site I want to search from a drop down menu.  In this case I searched for "booya!" - obviously you can pop whatever search term in the query box you like.

You can add any other site that has a query box this way - and this is only a tiny bit of what Roboform has to offer.

Challenge to someone smart reading this:  try a time trial searching this way and the old way - and then figure out how much time that will save the average person per year.

This looks a lot like what Firefox web browser does by default.

Note from MJ: Hey Blayze, I love FF, but with Roboform it does much more - check it out and you'll see ...

It's great to see someone else who is a firm believer in RoboForm. I use it everyday and it saves me tons of time. In fact i just recently created, "The RoboForm Report". A report that is about RoboForm and it's many uses. The report has this same tip that Mark discusses in the chapter, "Product Research". This report is FREE and you can downlad it at this URL: http://booksbonkers.com/duece02-3845/TRRpdf_5483.zip . I just want any members of Simpleology that download RoboForm to know some more tips for it's use!

Thanks for reminding me Mark!

I know a lot of my friends swear by RoboForm... a time saver for sure.

My question is, what if you travel a lot and use a lot of internet cafe computers?

Is it web based or downloaded on your main computer?

Roboform = LOVE

Thanks for the tip. And Omarra, stellar report with more useful robo-goodies... thanks.

I'm another Roboform afficianado - I love it! I've used it for years now and it definitely is a huge time saver. I'm sure I don't use all of its functions, so I look forward to reading your report Omarra.

In answer to Ken's question, Roboform have a version that loads on a USB memory stick so you can carry it around and use it wherever you are. It's called Roboform2Go. Has the same functionality as the PC based version.

I am in complete agreement that Roboform rocks! And when you couple the Roboform 2Go with the lite version of Open Office on the same USB drive it gives you all the applications you normally need, plus access to all of your logins and passwords on any PC. When you are done, unplug your thumb drive and there is no residual footprint or evidence you have been there.

Yes I too have RoboForm and I love it because it saves a lot of time.

Yap.. agree with MJ.

i bought the full version of roboform in 2007, and really grateful for it :).

save a lot of time for me to remember my password, my favorites, etc.

I also bought the full version of roboform2go, install it into my thumb drive, and i can use it in any PC :)

Best regards and joy

I heard that Roboform can automate the article submission process haven't tried that. The set up file is on my hard drive; will try soon.

I've got Roboform2go and I don't use it. There is no way to import existing usernames, passwords and data into Roboform - I asked them. With hundreds of entries, it's another job that won't get done.

I used Roboform in the past but never reinstalled it after a migration. Maybe I should take a look again.

In Firefox (as someone was referring to in an earlier comment) you can automatically search sites using a keyword. I have set li for LinkedIn and pl for Plaxo for example. The setup is slightly more cumbersome (see http://johnbokma.com/firefox/keymarks-explained.html) but the advantage is you don't need to add any additional toolbars and it's super easy and fast to use this shortcuts from the keyboard (I personally rarely use a mouse).

i have used roboform for about 5 years or more and is one of the best programs out there,,,

I am just scratching the surface with my Roboform... I am looking forward to diving in and saving time! I've already downloaded your report, Omarra! Thanks for the tips, Mark--

i dont get what it does? can you please explain

I used to use a portable version of Roboform that I carried on a USB stick, and that was configured to work with my portable version of Firefox. However, I changed my USB stick once too often, and Roboform stopped working because the license expired or something.. Although I really liked it, and it did what I needed, I would not pay for it again. Nowadays I use portable version of Flock together with an extension called Sxipper.. It does everything that I need it to do, and it's 100% free.. Not to mention that flock is probably the best social browser in existence, and has almost fully replaced FF for me....

I'm taking a 2 1/2 bicycle ride along the Pan-American Highway and will be depending on the Internet for many things. I'm bringing my own laptop and will be using hotspots and internet cafes along the way. If by using Roboform will I be safe from keyloggers. I'm specifically worried about my master password getting intercepted. Would it be better to use Roboform or RoboformToGo? Do either of them protect the master password from keylogging programs? Thanks!!

how safe it is?
when i login with my masterpassword are my passcards safe then?or they are safe only when roboform is loged off??
