user-pic  Congratulations Boston!
By: Mark Joyner

What a game!

KG led what was a brutal beating of the Lakers in game 6. The NBA blog called the Celtic defense "soul crushing" and that about sums it up.

The Lakers were pretty well shut down by Boston even though they put up a valiant final fight.

As for the competition, we are utterly overwhelmed by the massive response and will be selecting the winners shortly.

Lakers fans: a bet is a bet, so here is the place to add your congratulations. Just add your comment to this post and give the Celtics their due.

Game 6 proves they earned it.

Congratulations Boston! Well played.

Right on, Boston - congrats!

Mark, this was really fun. I particularly like the fact that you kept it inside of a bigger context - you know, that the world is on fire and there's work to do, but let's have some fun with this since it's also happening. Good show.

Congats to the winners.. I'm not a big sports fan.. but I love LA so voted for the Lakers.... Oh well.. To all the winners.. enjoy your prize.. MJ is a great guy and any gift from him is worth cherishing..

Congrats!

Congratulations, Celtics! It was a good game and yes, you did win fair and square. Gotta give credit where it's due! A little sad for Phil Jackson... but he did get the JOY of being the coach of the best ALL-TIME TEAM EVER - Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan... basketball will never be the same for me without him! :) Anyway, congratulations!

I'm a Lakers fan but I have to hand it to the Celtics. They were simply the better team. I actually enjoyed watching them celebrate...especially Garnett....It's inspriing to see how much passion he had and how his hard work paid off. My Lakers hat is off to all of them. lol

Congratulations to the Celtics.

I thought this would be Lakers year, but it seems the best team won this one...

Go Celtics

Congratulations to the victorious Celtics... a fine performance by a championship team!

And kudos also to a valiant Lakers team that fell just short... much success to them next year!

It's a joy to watch two such great teams, and a great team one. Way to go Celtics!

CONGRATULATIONS BOSTON
a well done chapionship

congratulation Celtics you deserved your win!

Its great to celebrate your win, just remember a blackboard is no good without chalk...

And a winning team only wins because it has a team to play against.

Congratulations from Australia!

Congrats to the Celtics. I can't really believe its been so long since their last championship.

This series proves once again that defensive teams ALWAYS win. I'm a Laker fan, and they will be back, but I didn't really believe Kobe and Co. could beat a team with so many offensive options, a good bench, and the best defense.

Kudos not only to the players, but the entire organization.

What a game!?!?!? Not a big basketball fan myself but I am all for good, exciting fun! Go Boston, what more can be said. Lakers, you put gave 'em a run for their money and that is what every good team wants. Congrats to all.

Posted by: Theresa | June 18, 2008 1:01 AM

As difficult as this is for me I want to congratulate the Celtics. They had more heart and definately wanted it more. This time the best team won. Now that I have done part excuse me while I go wash the fingers that typed this.

After the dust cleared the BEST MAN WON Go Celtic Fans.

Posted by: Gilbert | June 18, 2008 1:05 AM

Congrats Celtics, though I have lost my bet for Lakers to win, still must say that the better team ought to win.

Yes....Mark...The lakers got a severe trashing. I was rooting for them. Congratulations Celtics. You played a fantastic game. Wishing you all the best.
Its all in the game

Congrudgeala-

Oops! I mean ...
Congratulations Celtics!

Crappy series. . . unless you're a Celts fan (which I'm not). But the ceratinly handed the Lakers a good ol' fashioned beatdown tonight. I thought I knew basketball pretty well before watching this series, good thing I didn't put any money on it. Big Brown, you owe me, stupid horse. Congrats Celtics fans.
~Jesse

A bet is a bet. I could only watch a few minutes of the slaughter. It is my mom that I am worried about, she is one of the biggest Lakers fans I know. Oh, and poor Jack, is he smiling tonight? I bet not. Anyway, good luck to the ones up for the scholarship. Wish it was me.

Congrats to all the Celtic lovers; the East Coast and Boston rock!

Congratulations Celtics! You beat a team with a lot of heart.

Greaaaaaaat, Celtics, wow! you made it, greetings and blissss...ings!

Till next ---

Congratulations Celtic fans. And of course to the Celtics.
Job well executed. Such execution is a "joy" to watch even when your team looses.

Congratulations Celtics! You deserve it!

Congratulation Celtics. From old-timer Lakers Fan (back from Kareem Abdul Jabbar and Magic Johnson era)

Congratulations Celtics.

You won in style.

Doh. Congratulations Celtics. Bye bye Unlocking everything. *Sob*

My heart said Lakers but my head said Celtics. Congrats to BOTH teams for getting there in the first place.

Posted by: Justyn | June 18, 2008 1:55 AM

Congrats Boston!

Posted by: whho | June 18, 2008 2:01 AM

I have to congratulate the Celtics, well done! I'm only an Aussie, but I thought I had this one picked. C'est la vie.

Posted by: Nathan | June 18, 2008 2:05 AM

Um, I picked the Lakers because the only person I know who plays in the NBA is Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash and Shaq. O'Niel. So Kobe it was.

Congrats to the Celtics for winning, I guess. Not that I had a dog in that fight other than in Mark's contest.

Next year can we bet on the Stanley Cup?

Posted by: L K | June 18, 2008 2:13 AM

Although the Lakers are my team, I selected the Celtics to win in Mr. Joyner's challenge. As much of a fan as I am of the Lakers, I am an even bigger fan of the game of basketball itself. And it was a beautiful game that the Celtics played with remarkable and methodical consistency, with their constant hustle, their impeccable teamwork and solid fundamentals. They were obviously by far the superior team. The Lakers had individuals with amazing talent who could deliver stellar performances and steal the occasional game by playing their hearts out, for which they are to be commended. But in the long run, this was no match for the solid, relentless machine that the Celtics proved to be.
Congratulations to the Celtics, their fans, and the city of Boston on their 17th NBA championship. Amazing!
But just know that the Lakers will be gunning for you. I predict another face-off in the next few years with very different results.

Posted by: Leo Urias | June 18, 2008 2:28 AM

CONGRATS CELTICS!!!! WOOOHOOO!!! Big Celtics fan from NZ. Still love Kobe though! Goes to show Lakers are really missing that 'Kobe-Shaq' formula... oh well ;D

Posted by: Andrew | June 18, 2008 2:30 AM

Congrats for the winner team!

When I entered the competition
I didn't know which team to select. The email mentioned something about Lakers so I thought they were the favorites.

Then I remembered one of Joe Vitale's quote 'use intuition as your mental compass when you are not sure' something inside told me to go for Celtics and I'm happy to know that they have won. Congratulations Celtics.

Congratulations to the Celtics! Each year the best of the best meet head to head, and one walks away the winner of the last game. Congratulations to this year's winner!

Oooh, the Green Guys won!! Now if only MY Green Guys could stay in Seattle all would be right with the world.

Yes, Kobe is amazing, but one man does not a team make.

It's my fault. I've never bet on my team before, and I double cursed them by not even watching this game. I'm sorry Mark. jk, The Celtics were the best team all year, the Lake Show was second best...reminded me of the old rivalry. It's actually good to see Boston on top again, playing the Lakers, just like the old days! For Doc River's Dad, Rest his soul...they had a lot to play for.

Congrats Celtics and Fans!

Fletch would not be happy...

...but they were too good!

Congratulations Boston!

Thanks...(since I voted for Celtics ;-)). CONGRATS Celtics! And kudos to all you Lakers fans who gave Celtics their due. You're such a sport, fellows. Celtics simply played better as a team on both ends - more especially on defense. Basketball is a team game and the better teamwork wins the game. It's just a pity I work here in Saudi and there was no live coverage on this part of the planet (just some highlights on NBA TV channel later in the day) so we just monitored the finals on the Internet. Great job Mr. Mark Joyner! This is fun. Many thanks and more power!

yay Celtics!

Posted by: Ellen | June 18, 2008 4:50 AM

Well I'm not big into basketball but I watched and enjoyed this one (perhaps something to do with an incentive for one team to win this time?)

I even researched to find out the better performing team (and then decided to pick the underdog so I would have more chance of being in the top 3 if they won) but my tactics didn't work this time. Oh well.

Congrats to Bean and the Celtics!

Commiserations to Mark and the Lakers - your team put up a worthy fight!

Well done Celtics! I know very little about the game and am so proud that I chose the winning team - thanks guys!

Celtics v. Lakers, Tiger Woods v. Rocco Mediate, Barack Obama V. John McCain...in 2008 you can clearly see that if you have the vision and belief anything can be accomplished with hard work. Keep it simple.
Congratulations to the Boston Celtics. Nicely done Mark.

Congratulations to Celtics!

Well done Celtics. Now, if my beloved Blues can make the finals in Aussie Rules football, I'll REALLY be happy.

Well done the Celtics.

See you next year!

And thanks to Mark for an unusual competition (as usual!).

Congrats to Boston. May your bean toots enliven your celebrations.

Congratulations Celtics..... This is a clear example of what MJ preaches with Sympleology 101! Both teams were focused on the same goal, but the Celtics at the end were more focused and applied more "101" techniques. They delegated their work to everyone (and when the Lakers did the same they won) this and the fact that they "Hit it until they hit it" made them champs. This was a great final!

- GO LAKERS -

Congratulation to the Celtics. (I tend to pronounce it Keltic, but never mind.)
You know the definition of an atheist? A guy who goes to the Notre Dame-SMU game and doesn't care who wins. I'm sort of like that with basketball. Especially pro.
I'd rather watch millionaires fight at internet marketing, and work out to join the game.
Thanks, Mark!

Congrats Boston.

CONGRATULATIONS CELTICS!

Research was needed before making my choice, as to who was to win this championship. That wasn't done, and in return, I missed the chance to make a big score for me.

Lessons to take into the future. Research for the best results, not just winging it, hoping for a big payoff.

This a basketball game, but it can apply to a business. Do the research, plan your strategy, and stay focused on the outcome you want; but also have some flexibility.

Great job Celtics!

Congratulations Celtics! I didn't even get to see the game, but I know you played well!

Congratulations to the Celts and all their fans! No team on earth could have beaten you in game 6. There's no denying winners with the combination of unprecedented skill, incomparable teamwork and unconscious good fortune.

As a long time Laker fan (from the days of Kareem-Magic) when I lived in LA, I have never rooted for the Celtics. However, this year, when the Celtics acquired KG and my favorite pure shooter, Ray Allen, I thought of how great it would be if Pierce, KG, and Allen could finally win their first NBA championship. Those three had surely put in their time and I decided to root for them to finally win their rings....It was so sweet and I was so happy to see them actually do it!!! Well-played and well-deserved, the Celtics rightly earned this title. Congratulations Boston!!!

OK, so I'm sad the Lakers took it on the chin since I'm a native California girl, but since the rest of my family's from Boston, I'm glad that if they had to lose it was to the Celtics. Way to go Bean Town!
