OK, Mark, that's it. This is war.

I sit here minutes before the first game of the finals only to read this blog post from my boss trashing MY TEAM!

Mark, I love ya, but the Lakers don't stand a chance.

Who has won more finals? The Lakers or the Celtics?

Hmmmm?

Enough said.

Well seeing as my beloved Sonics (have had season tickets for 37 years) are MOVING! I'm back rooting for the Celtics. Of course I usually root for anyone who's playing the Dreaded Lakers....

GO GREEN!!!

And besides I LOVE Boston's parquet floor!

Celtics have won 16 championships, most of any NBA franchise. Their last title came in 1985-86. Lakers have won 14 overall including three-in-a-row from 2000-02.
Lakers and Celtics have met 10 times in the Finals, most recently in 1986-87, a 4-2 Lakers win.
Red Auerbach won 9 titles as a coach, tied for most all-time with current Lakers coach Phil Jackson.

Hehehe, you're both right!
It's all part of the dance, remember?

Sorry Mark, but Boston in six!

Mark... your "BWASTON" C's got the game tonight. But when Kobe wakes up in game 2, and then heading back to LA... it's all over for the Green, buddy.

Kobe For President!!!

I've nothing to add other than, it's now 1-0 for the Celtics. It's back to the drawing board for Phil Jackson and his boys. It's going to be a great series but I feel that the title would go to the hungrier team.

As an Aussie, not sure I quite have the same impact that you guys do, but I used to follow the league from here, way back when I had the time.

I rememer some amazing games full of speed and mastery from both teams and always enjoyed watching them fight it out on the court.

So, who do I think is the best out of the two and should win?

Sorry but I gotta go for the Boston mob on this one. And not for any other reason than I like them more. Both teams are great basketball players, but there is just something about the Boston team that inspires me more.

Yes, aah.. the triumph of that Harvard spirit will gain a Boston win! GD.

Sorry, Mark, but I have to go with Boston. If Philly isn't playing, the Celtics are my team.

I like the Lakers to win this series.
It's not about who has won the most NBA championships.

The Celtics were the best back in Aurbach's era, because there weren't many strong basketball franchises. It's all about parity nowadays. Back in the early days you had approximately 5 or 6 strong franchises that could possibly win the NBA title.

Nowadays, the possibility of a team winning an NBA title has grown exponentially. As an example of some strong franchises during this past season, look at the Western Conference team records.

Sorry guys - but who really cares when you have Premier League football and Man U winning the league and Champions League?... and now we have Euro 2008!!!! without England (boo hoo!) but it will still be the best sporting competion ever this year!!!

Sorry Mark but you are wrong, I live in LA and I'm a die-hard Celtics fan, the Lakers will take a couple of games but in the end it will be the Celtics.

Hello, in here,
It is fun for me to watch the "Religion of Sports Fans[-atics]" [RSF's] slug it out for a vicarious "win" through their "denominational idols" or sports teams.
Personally, i can root for both teams at the same time so i focus upon rooting for ALL! of Humanity equally. The bonus is that we who root for ALL! Humanity never "lose" - no matter who "wins"! Everybody is a "winner", i believe! Do you believe that too, Mark and Bean?
A Quote, if i may:
"WE ALL! WIN AS WE ALL GRIN!"
Please share your grins with us ALL!
Thank you, ALL!

O.K. I`m English but I`m not a football(soccer to all you on the other side of the pond) supporter, & I don`t like cricket either(I`m actually a cyclist) but can I just point out that someone somewhere plays in something called the "World Series" & who else plays? What countries are involved in this "World" series? Oh that`ll be just the one then - the good old USA. Hey get a life there`s a whole er..ah..er.. WORLD out here.
Incidentaly for all you soccer fans more people watch the Tour de France bike race in three weeks than attend ALL the UK Premier & 1st division soccer matches in a whole season!

Global marketing test, huh Mark :). Very smart indeed. Like it.

I'd say:

Stats don't say everything. More as 20 years of winning nothing... they will be surpassed at one point. One cannot live in the past or one shall not excist in the future.

Ok CA! I was born and raised in MA and a Celtics fan. I have to say, at this point in the series, it's down to the "wire". I am obviously bias with Boston and know LA is a terrific team but step aside Kobe... Pierce and Garnett are here!!!!

Posted by: Kim Laughlin | June 6, 2008 6:53 AM

Guess you're gonna have to let the teams settle the differences for you two, huh? That's where you will find out the truth.

But get as much trash talking and chest pounding in as you can before the game. It makes the victory sweeter, the defeat more humbling and the gloating can last SO much longer.

:)

Mark,
Great hire in Bean!!!
Wrong-headed thinking on
your part. Kobe can not win
the ring without the Diesel, at least not this yr. It is the Celtics time.

Posted by: Rich | June 6, 2008 9:26 AM

Who cares?!? Bring MJ back. Go Bulls!!

Posted by: Bill | June 6, 2008 9:51 AM

For me it is not about which team wins, but how exciting is the game? If both teams give it their best, the real winners are the fans either way! I wish you both luck on your teams, and may you all dance well with no toe-crunching!

Still have a soft spot in my heart for the Celtics. Gotta go with the green.

To the Saxman...when the "world series" began it was before television and the internet, so each country was much more its own "world" than it is now.

If my timeline is correct, when the series began the USA played second to England in the super power race. Wasn't that braggadocios saying something like, The Sun Never Sets on the British Empire?

So if your point is that we "ugly Americans" are at it again, then you need to get over it, and get a life. We "colonists" know we're not the whole world, just the best part of it...remember, the chest beating is all part of the game - (grin)

What is the question? The name Phil Jackson was pretty popular here when the Bulls coined the term threepeat. I know nothing about basketball. Some guys run up and down the court and throw a ball into a basket from time to time. I do have trouble with a team that doesn't know how to pronounce their name correctly. Celtics. It should either be spelled Selltics, or pronounced Keltics.

Sport has two functions. The first is to help one get or stay fit. Even the dice shaking for Ludo helps strengthen the beer-raising elbow.
The other function is to provide 'healthy' competition without actually killing the other player/side. If you want a mean game, take up Croquet.

How bout we say I win, have a beer and enjoy the game? you can be losers together!! just kidding (I think it's funny, as long as you don't take me too serious). Anyway 1st 12-pack is on me (I'd get a 24 but I'm a lil strapped for cash right now)... Only thing is you have to come here for it (like I said tight on the cash). C'mon be random and actually show up! It'll make for a great e-mail to send too!! So come on down to Montreal, could be fun, and like I said if anything, it'll make for a good follow up news thing.
Waiting to heaR FROM YA (BOTH OF YA) enjoy

Go Boston! I root for any team against the Lakers--but it's a PLEASURE to root for Boston! What a classy group of players!
