Sometimes it takes years of thinking to arrive at something very simple. You strip away what’s imperfect or unimportant … And keep stripping … Finally, if you did your job well, what you’re left with is something artful.

We’ve been wanting to integrate project management into Simpleology for a very long time …

And with Simpleology 5.5, Projects are finally here.

In the same way Simpleology simplifies your complicated life, with 5.5 you can now simplify your complicated projects.

First, let’s get geeky …

If your eyes glaze over when the techno-babble begins, skip this section. If you’re an uber-nerd-deluxe (like most of us around here), read on.

With Projects you can create cardwall/kanban style workflows to manage your projects, be they Agile-compliant …

… or a totally customized project workflow of your own design.

If you’re not familiar with this method of project management you are in for a productivity-skyrocketing treat. With its roots in the work of W. Edwards Deming, it is one of the most important foundations of the new Agile-everything trend.

You can use it to organize almost anything in a simple and optimized way (adaptable to “pull systems,” “just in time,” and many other methodologies).

In practical terms …

With 5.5 collaboration is as it should be: the simple seamless joy of interacting with people meaningfully.

Use it to lasso business projects …

… to plan a family vacation …

… or, well, to simplify any project of any type and any complexity.

You can even use it to track software bugs …

… or household chores.

And best of all, tasks inside each “card” are seamlessly integrated with the rest of Simpleology …

… so when we guide you through Start My Day each morning, you can breeze through your projects in manageable chunks.

We help you make effective decisions about what to do next so that you can put your mind at ease …

… or reach new heights of zen-like focus …

… or both.

What’s next? Keep your eyes on your inbox for your “Invitation to Upgrade” email. We’re rolling out 5.5 to groups of 10,000 users at a time so we can keep the system rock-solid stable and make subtle improvements along the way based on your feedback.

Already one of the lucky ones on 5.5? If you love it, please comment below to spread the love. Want a feature you don’t see? Post a feature request. Want to report a bug or need help with anything at all? Contact our stupendously awesome Customer Care team.

[…]

So where does this leave us?

You know Simpleology is about to make a hard pivot and completely reinvent itself.

You know that this change came about after observing that technology often makes our lives more difficult and that free access to information is changing our lives in unexpected – and not always positive – ways.

But there’s a lot more to this conversation. These developments have caused us to re-think every other aspect of our business as well.

We’ve changed the way we do marketing.

We’ve changed the way we manage our operations.

We’ve changed the way we develop software.

Literally every single aspect of our business has been re-imagined.

In our quest to reinvent ourselves we have learned much. We have also wasted quite a bit of time, energy, and money on outmoded business advice that just does not work anymore. Oh let me tell you … the line of consultants ready to teach you nonsense (and ask you to pay through the nose for it) is long. And we are not alone in this observation. We are now part of a group of world class entrepreneurs assembled to rise up against the nonsense.

We call this “The Mutiny Project” or “Mutiny” for short.

We don’t want you to make these same mistakes. So, as an interlude to our discussion about the new software, we want to share this new hard won knowledge with you. Knowledge we feel is essential for business survival in this changed world. It will be made freely available to all. And as our way of saying thanks to our Elite members we will be offering you additional resources and knowledge to help you make this transition into a new way of doing business easier. (It won’t be easy – but we do feel it will be essential for your business survival.)

We’ll be sharing it in digestible and immediately usable chunks – called “Waves” – over the coming months. The first Wave will be available next week.

Change your habits instantly by making tiny changes in your environment (melts body fat... skyrockets profit ... enables beast mode productivity ... and more)

kai zen - Japanese for “continuous improvement”

kan kyo - Japanese for “environment” or “surroundings”

Kankyo Kaizen then is the continuous improvement of one’s surroundings in order to improve quality of life.

Let’s call these quality of life improvements “Kankyo Kaizen hacks.”

These hacks can solve problems …

… change behavior …

… reduce the waste of time and materials …

… or simply improve aesthetic appearances.

And they don’t have to be big or expensive. They don’t even have to take much time. In the spirit of kaizen, they should be small … and gradual … but constant. Tiny changes each day can add up to radical improvement over time.

What if you, and the people who share space with you, started making these tiny changes as a habit?

What would happen at the end of a week? Or a month? Or a year? And what would happen if other groups of people, inspired by the changes you made, started doing the same?

That’s the Kankyo Kaizen movement.

How do you join?

Step 1. Download the free Kankyo Kaizen Starter Kit

Step 2. Share It with the People with Whom You Share Space

Step 3. Share Your Kankyo Kaizen Ideas and Stories in the Comments Below

No, the Wimiki is not the mediocre-ish 3rd installment of an otherwise great 9 part series that was cruelly shortened to 6 parts because George Lucas is a lazy lazy man.

No! Wimiki is the awesome downloadable software that brings Simpleology to your desktop.

Short history: it was here. it was so-so. it was gone. Now it’s back and is ready to <strike>topple the evil empire</strike> make you even more productive than before.

And … It now works on both Windows and Mac.

(Take that George Lucas! Do your fancy new Blu-ray discs work on a Mac? OK. Well, nevermind. This was not the comment you’re looking for. We can go on about our business.)

How is that possible, you ask? How can one be more productive than the average Simpleology user? Isn’t that like breaking the laws of physics or something?

Good question. Inspired by CERN’s discovery last week that faster-than-light motion is possible, we have decided to break the Simpleology-barrier and make you even faster than before.

Let’s break it down …

The Wimiki
(available to Simpleology Pro and Elite members)

What does it do?

First, it brings Simpleology to your Windows or Mac desktop.

You can access your Daily Targets … Drop items into the Dream Catcher … Stuff like that. It’s not meant to replace Simpleology on the web (you still do “Start My Day” on the web), but rather to extend it and enhance it.

Next, it adds two new productivity-boosting tools to your arsenal:

Alarms

These are simple alarms to remind you of things throughout your day. These aren’t meant as a replacement for your calendar, but rather to remind you to perform good habits.

Routines

Many people find that they work best when they break up their work into “sprints” of varying lengths of time with short breaks in between. During those breaks, it’s often useful to do things to maintain your health – like drink water, get up and stretch, do some brain exercise, etc …

Because everyone is different, Wimiki is totally customizable to suit your situation. You want 30 minute work sprints and 5 minute breaks where you drink water? You got it. You want 50 minute work sprints and 10 minute breaks where you watch your favorite Bruce Lee clip for motivation? You can do that, too. It’s all up to you.

Why should we care?

Because we are our habits. Little by little, the way we spend our time defines who we are. We don’t see it in the moment, but when we look back on years of our lives, we can see that the way we spent our time determined who are we right now.

Wouldn’t it be a good idea to get in control of that process to determine who we’ll be in the future?

It’s one thing to say “change your habits” but how?

A coach wouldn’t hurt.

No, not the “I took a two day course in life coaching” sorta coach …

But the real kind …

No, nothing can replace a real coach with real credibility and conscientious tough love. But those guys are tough to find.

Is Wimiki the next best thing? Well, it’s software. It will stay on you. The motivation has to come from you. Sorry, there’s no way around that. Anyone who tells you otherwise is not telling you the truth. But sometimes a little nudge from time to time can make all the difference.

Where do we get it?

Log in and find it on the Extras tab of My Account.
